JESUS MY HEADHUNTER

This is a true story - a witness - of God's work in my life during the trials of unemployment.

In the early '90s, I had successfully completed a career transition, achieved operations management stature and had a modest sized staff in a large and well-known NYC headquartered publishing company. It was a time of corporate acquisitions, reorganization, re-engineering. The company had acquired a new division in mid-western state. For business reasons it was more practical to relocate the operations of my department to the midwest. Sixteen people lost their jobs. Two of us, myself included were offered the opportunity to move, or receive severance. I opted for severance and collected unemployment benefits. It reached a point however, when severance ran out and unemployment was just not enough for a family of four.... At the time, I had sent out 935 letters and resumes - my 2 children helped with every postage stamp and envelope. We usually take a family vacation in July and there it was... no vacation. Very depressing, and self-esteem shaken up.... Many people including members of the charismatic prayer group I visited, family, friends, parish clergy offered kind words and their prayers. After 7 months and all those letters sent, I really felt deep-down that maybe it was all fake. Maybe, God wasn't listening. In short, my faith was undergoing a trial. But then one morning in July, I awoke with a thought, a revelation, a word of encouragement. It revelation went like this... "You have a friend who is a Headhunter. He is so good at what he does, he can place people in great jobs even if they only have the experience of fisherman, tax collector and prostitute." "Be patient, I have already found a job for you. You have an office, a salary and a title already reserved" I was jubilant that day, and called several members of the prayer group to tell them of my expectation - I have a friend who is a Headhunter! After all those months, the following day 3 callers asked to arrange interviews. That prompted a second round of calls, proclaiming to all - my renewed faith, joy and jubilant expectation. My family was stunned by my new face - a smiling one! One of the callers eventually hired me 2 months later. During the interviewing process, I felt the presence of the Holy Spirit and my Guardian Angel. When I didn't know what to answer, I quickly lifted a 'Glory Be' prayer... and the words would flow out. When it came time for the discussion on compensation - I put the entire matter into Jesus's hands and asked for an amount to be placed in my head. The amount plus more was indeed 'reserved' - the letter inviting me to join the company had it all spelled out in black & white. For all who are undergoing the trial of unemployment. Let Him - Jesus - be your headhunter. Be blessed in expectation that He alone will provide you with the job that he has already reserved for you. Don't get trapped into thinking God has limitations on details. Pray, dialog with God. Realize that He has already reserved a job. It already has a title, a salary, a desk, and co-workers! The Holy Spirit is beyond all time and place and will lead you to that job - and renewed faith. Scripture says, "even before we ask, He knows our needs" Remember - You have a friend who is Headhunter! God bless you
