Why Are There So
Many
Scandals
In The
Church?
It would seem that there are a great number of scandals
within the
Catholic Church. Is there a reason for this?
There have been scandals in the Church almost from the very beginning.
There is a very simple explanation for this. Catholics are only human and
humans have their weaknesses. Humans will always have human
weaknesses and
so the scandals will no doubt continue. However not
one 'jot or tittle' of
Catholic doctrine has ever been promulgated or
changed by scandal. Scandals
occur in all Churches, however some are publicized more than others.
The word 'scandal' comes from the Greek, meaning 'stumbling block'.
The
reasons why there are scandals in the Church is because
Jesus Christ said
there would be...
"Woe to the world because of scandals! For it must
needs be that scandals come, but woe to the man through whom scandal
comes." Matthew 18:7
And He said to His disciples, "It is
impossible that scandals should not come;
but woe to him through whom they
come." Luke 17:1
