The Apartheid supporters as well as the Improvement of Race Relations in the Church.Through the huge attempts whish Bishop Hurley did to improve the Church and fight against apartheid we find that he got many opponents. The Dutch Reformed Church opposed to these attempts by Bishop Hurley since he was trying to protect the interest of the black people. This was because of the fact that "the Dutch reformed Church identified itself with the National Party government to the point where it was able to see beyond National interest to the broader demands of Christian call"10. I do agree with this point which Goodman makes. If we can look at the Dutch Reformed Church we find that the origin of the is from Dutch where there is Afrikaans speaking people. So how could they possible oppose their brothers. Hurley started or made ma ny improvements which aimed at promoting Race Relations. "The South African Institute of Race Relations founded in 1929 was supported by Hurley from 1965 to 1966 and he became the president of this institution"11. In other words we cab say this institution was also another way to get rid of apartheid in the Catholic Mission. We can say the apartheid did not affect Mariannhill Mission only, almost every Catholic Church Mission in South Africa was affected by this policy.
