| Overview |
Below are descriptions of and links to writing projects selected from my hard-copy portfolio. I chose these samples to show the range of my writing and editing experience.

Land Management Planning
|
Since joining the plan revision core team on the Pike and San Isabel National Forests and the Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands in March of 2005, I have designed, written, and edited materials ranging from the Plan and its User's Guide, summaries, to newsletters, formal correspondence and process papers. I also designed and wrote the content for our revision projects Web pages.
For the main page click here. For examples of my work among Grasslands Plan materials, see especially Public Participation, and Top Picks, and Process Reports. To help people learn about planning and the 2005 National Forest System Land Management Rule, I developed the About Planning Web page and its materials. Two of the FAQs I adapted from Region 1 FAQs. The revision of the Forests Plan had just gotten underway when the 2005 Planning Rule was enjoined. I developed the materials currently posted on the Forests Web pages, except the Federal Register notice. For my contributions to the Common to Both Projects page, see the annual monitoring reports and EMS FAQs. (I did not edit the PSICC EMS.)

While working for the Okanogan and Wenatchee National Forests from 2002 and 2003, I edited several roads analyses, and also the Forest Health Assessment for the Okanogan and Wenatchee National Forests.

Microsoft
|
At Microsoft, between 1999 and 2002, I edited the Analysis Services and Meta Data Services portions of SQL Server Books Online (technical documentation for users) which shipped with SQL Server 2000, technical articles, and SDK documentation. Click here to view this on the MSDN Web site.
Among the technical articles I edited are:

Grant Proposals
|
I wrote two grant proposals for the St. Joseph Housing Group, a non-profit group in Seattle that provides transitional housing to homeless families. To view the narrative section of one of these proposals, click here. While working for the Community Grant Support Initiative (now the Center for Community Support), I researched and wrote my first grant proposals. These were two state and federal grants for a Dallas HIV/AIDS community outreach center. Both proposals followed strict format requirements stipulated in the RFPs (one was a Ryan White grant). Both were awarded funding; one received a reviewer-rating of highest among those submitted. To view the narrative section of one of these proposals, click here.

| Newsletters |
Through summer 1999, I was responsible for the quarterly newsletters of the Polymer Technology Center. Each newsletter was approximately 354K. The primary audience was corporate members (engineers, researchers, lab managers); the newsletter also served promotional functions. I was responsible for determining, researching, and writing articles, doing all layout, taking photographs, creating the logo, proofing blacklines, distribution, posting .pdf versions on the Web page, etc. |

| Research Reports |
As a technical editor for the Public Policy Research Center, I ensured consistency of style, format, and language conventions among report sections (text, tables, etc.) that had been written by research team members. I was also anassistant project manager, working with researchers in the writing and logical structuring of their reports. We never missed a deadline. One project was Juvenile Justice in Texas, a federally-mandated research report, headed by Dr. Ramdas Menon. Each state was required to investigate the possibility of a disproportionate treatment of minorities in their juvenile justice system. I edited and revised content, organized and helped research the final report and appendices. I also created all charts, tables, and diagrams, converted data from SAS, and designed the report covers. The size of the report prevents me from posting it here. |
