During this series, runners will accumulate points at each prediction race they attend. Before every race, each runner is required to predict his or her finishing time. This prediction is written down and no runner will be allowed to wear a watch during the event. A runner’s "adjusted finishing place" will be determined by how close that runner's "prediction" comes to his or her "actual finishing time." More points will be awarded to those whose "adjusted finishing place" is lower than to those whose "adjusted finishing place" is higher. At the end of the series, the points from each runner’s five best races will be totaled and SCR will present "Prediction Series" awards to those with the highest point totals. The awards will not be catagorized by sex or age group because every runner has an equal chance of getting an award (according to how accurately they predict their actual finishing time). The awards will be presented in January during the SCR Banquet.

The points will be calculated as follows:

Scoring for the SCR Prediction Series will be on a percentage-points basis. For each race, points will be awarded based on the percentile finish of each runner. For example, a runner whose "adjusted finishing place" is first in a field of 24 would receive 100.00 points (24/24 x 100 = 100.00); the second-place finisher would receive 95.83 points (23/24 x 100 = 95.83), and so on, down to the 24th finisher, who would receive 4.17 points (1/24 x 100 = 4.17). In the case of a tie, the higher place finish will go to the older runner.

The 2005 Prediction Series consists of nine or ten races. To be elegible for a series award, a participant must complete at least five of these races. Of course, runners may compete in as many races as they wish, however, only each runner's five "best" finishes will be considered for the purpose of determining the series winners.
